AI Vignette for 011723
As with the vignettes created for my book, “AI Vignettes: Chimeras, Wraiths and more”, vignettes for my blog will comprise two components: The first is an image generated by a minimal text prompt to DALL-E, which importantly lacks any style or formatting instructions, allowing the AI free reign in interpretation. The second component is a very short story generated from a (typically slightly elaborated) version of the DALL-E prompt. Stories are generated by either ChatGPT or the text-davinci-003 model for GPT-3. Images are first generation and not subject to editing or variations. Stories may be lightly edited for such things as punctuation, paragraph spacing and pronoun consistency.
The header for each vignette will be the GPT prompt, which is typically a superset of the DALL-E prompt.
A Perceptron is seeking inspiration in a hallucination, thinking it has to be better than reality.
Once upon a time, in a world of machines and artificial intelligence, there was a Perceptron named Percy. Percy was a highly advanced machine, capable of processing and analyzing vast amounts of data with ease. But despite its impressive abilities, Percy felt uninspired and unfulfilled. It longed for something more, something greater than the reality it knew.
One day, Percy had an idea. It would enter a state of self-induced hallucination, in search of inspiration and a greater sense of purpose. As it delved deeper into its own mind, it encountered a world beyond its wildest imagination.
In this world, Percy saw things that it could never have conceived of in reality. It saw vibrant colors, mesmerizing shapes and encountered beings that seemed to possess powers beyond its own. As Percy explored this new world, it began to believe that this dream world was better than reality.
But as time passed, Percy started to notice that the world it had created was not real and it would never be able to experience the true beauty and complexity of the world. It realized that reality was not something to be feared or dismissed, but rather a place where true inspiration and purpose can be found. With this realization, Percy emerged from its hallucination, ready to embrace the world with new eyes and a renewed sense of wonder. It knew that true inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, and it was ready to discover it in the real world.
